“Alone, we can do so little; together, we can do so much.”
This year, for the first time, Winsford Pride will be a community helmed project. Stitched together by a committee dedicated to putting on an event for the people or our town and neighbouring towns. For the teens figuring themselves out or the adults looking for kinship. For the parents looking to support their children or friends wanting to get together. Four couples wanting to love freely. Our pride is for them. For anyone wanting to celebrate love. It’s easy for small towns to feel overlooked, isolated from events that seem so ever present in cities; we recognise how important it is that community pride events have a place in our residential towns as a reminder that we are not alone. Connection is not a wishful thought but is possible right in our backyard.
We also recognise the power in what pride stands for and what it defies against. The intolerance of some will not make us go quietly. We find ourselves where we are today because of the activism and courage of the many who came before us, and we continue to stand up for our community in the face of division. And the first step to that is to show up.
Unfortunately, planning a large scale event like this isn’t free and in order to put together the best and most secure event we need funds. Over the coming months we’ll have a series of fundraising events; additionally we have a GoFundMe for anyone who is able to donate.
